Cheesy Ranch Potatoes and Smoked Sausage: A Comfort Food Favorite

Author and date : July 23, 2025 by LEWIS Dany

Some recipes just stick with you because they make life easier and tastier at the same time. For us, cheesy ranch potatoes and smoked sausage started as a late-night experiment in our Brooklyn kitchen when Olivia and I needed something hearty but simple after a long day. We had a bag of russet potatoes, a pack of smoked sausage, and half a block of cheddar โ€” so we tossed them together with ranch seasoning and hoped for the best. That first try became one of our most requested weeknight dinners, and now itโ€™s part of our regular rotation.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs russet potatoes, diced

1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds

1 packet ranch seasoning mix

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Colby Jack blend)

3 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp paprika

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC). Grease a large baking dish or sheet pan.

2. In a large bowl, toss diced potatoes with olive oil, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper until evenly coated.

3. Spread the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on the pan and bake for 25โ€“30 minutes, stirring halfway, until tender and lightly browned.

4. Add the sliced smoked sausage to the pan, mixing with the potatoes. Bake for another 15 minutes.

5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top. Return to the oven for 5โ€“7 minutes, until the cheese melts and bubbles.

6. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

You can swap cheddar for Colby Jack or mozzarella for a gooier texture.

For crispier potatoes, avoid overcrowding the pan.

Great served with a simple salad or garlic bread.
